Growing up, it was typical for us to have a box of Pop Tarts in the cupboard. My favorite flavors were always un-frosted strawberry and cinnamon brown sugar. When I saw this recipe on For The Love of Cooking, I knew I had to try it. These were great! I haven't had a Pop Tart in a while, but this was a great substitution for them.
1 pre-made Pie Crust
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1 Egg, mixed well
Place the dough onto a cutting board and cut it into 4 squares. Take the cut off strips of dough and roll them out to make one more square. Spread a little of the softened butter on one side of each square. In a bowl, mix the cinnamon and brown sugar. Spoon a little bit of the mixture onto the butter on each square. Fold the dough in half and gently seal the edges with your fingers. Crimp the edges with a fork. Slice a vent into the top of each pop tart, then brush each of the tops with the egg wash. Sprinkle each pop tart with some of the brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Place the pop tarts on a baking pan lined with a silpat mat or non-stick baking spray. Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
